May 19 : 10am-4pm with a 30 minute lunch break.
In this one day bookbinding workshop students will learn about and create basic bookbinding structures including pamphlet stitch, do-si-do stitch, japanese stab binding, and traditional longstitch. We will also cover binding terminology, paper basics, trimming, and tools. Class size is limited to 5 students to accommodate our studio space. Materials are included in class fee although some basic tools will be required to bring from home. I will send a list of tools and other logistics by May 11.
Workshop is taught by Beth Schaible, proprietor of Quill and Arrow. She has taught at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Penland School of Crafts, 7 Ton Co., Asheville Bookworks, and more. She works full time as a bookbinder, letterpress printer, calligrapher, and graphic designer in Petaluma, Sonoma County, CA.
