WORKSHOP : COPTIC BOOKBINDING

Coptic Binding Workshop
Petaluma, CA
June 16 : 10am-3pm with a 30 minute lunch break.
$110

In this one day bookbinding workshop students will learn and make two versions of coptic bound books with hard covers and beautifully sewn exposed spines. Basic paper information, tools, and techniques will be covered. Class size is limited to 5 students to accommodate our studio space. Materials are included in class fee although some basic tools will be required to bring from home. I will send a list of tools and other logistics by June 7. This workshop is appropriate for beginners and intermediate levels. 

Workshop is taught by Beth Schaible, proprietor of Quill and Arrow. She has taught at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Penland School of Crafts, 7 Ton Co., Asheville Bookworks, and more. She works full time as a bookbinder, letterpress printer, calligrapher, and graphic designer in Petaluma, CA.

Workshop: Beginners Bookbinding Sampler Part I

May 19 : 10am-4pm with a 30 minute lunch break.

In this one day bookbinding workshop students will learn about and create basic bookbinding structures including pamphlet stitch, do-si-do stitch, japanese stab binding, and traditional longstitch. We will also cover binding terminology, paper basics, trimming, and tools. Class size is limited to 5 students to accommodate our studio space. Materials are included in class fee although some basic tools will be required to bring from home. I will send a list of tools and other logistics by May 11.

Workshop is taught by Beth Schaible, proprietor of Quill and Arrow. She has taught at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Penland School of Crafts, 7 Ton Co., Asheville Bookworks, and more. Hand print your own letterpress card on a vintage printing press. Decorate your own clay tile on Sunday, we’ll fire the tiles and have them ready for pick up by Friday, May 11... just in time for Mother’s day. Kids and adults welcome! Tile+card=$25

In this two day binding workshop students will create functional longstitch books, starting with basic stitching and moving quickly to non-traditional patterns. On day two students will learn how to design and sew their own longstitch patterns creating beautifully exposed spines. Some binding experience will be helpful, but this class is appropriate for all levels.
